A lipid-rich overnight sealant that forms a protective layer on the skin’s surface to help slow water loss. Botanical waxes, butters, oils and cholesterol seal in moisture and the hydrating layers beneath. Skin wakes up softer, smoother and more comfortable.
Barrier depletion: cholesterol, lecithin, botanical butters and emollient lipids help replenish surface lipids and support the skin’s barrier function.
Moisture loss: tribehenin, candelilla wax and sunflower wax form an occlusive layer that helps slow water evaporation from the skin overnight.

BASTINA™ takes its name from the French word bastion, a fortified structure built to protect what lies within.
Throughout history, people living in the world’s driest climates learned that finding water was only part of the challenge. Keeping it from escaping mattered just as much. Plant oils, waxes and animal fats were traditionally applied to the skin to create a protective layer against the drying effects of sun and wind.
Among them is creosote bush (Larrea tridentata), one of the most common shrubs of the deserts of the US Southwest and northern Mexico, and the plant behind the smell of desert rain. It’s also one of North America’s toughest drought survivors. Some creosote rings in the Mojave Desert are believed to be thousands of years old. The best-known, “King Clone,” is estimated at around 11,700 years old.
For generations, many Indigenous peoples of the Southwest, including the Tohono O’odham, Pima and Seri, relied on creosote bush as a staple ointment and remedy. Traditionally, it was applied to the skin for sores, cuts, rashes and dryness, and prepared as teas and steams for colds and aches.
In BASTINA™, creosote bush adds antioxidant support. Its main active compound, NDGA, is a powerful antioxidant.
BASTINA™ draws on that same wisdom and on the North American desert plants that have evolved remarkable ways to conserve water and survive intense heat, wind and drought. Modern barrier science explains the same principle: hydration depends not only on finding moisture, but on keeping it.
Warm a small amount between your fingertips, then gently press over the face, neck and décolleté. Leave on overnight to help seal in moisture.
Good to know: BASTINA™ contains creosote bush (Larrea tridentata), also called chaparral, which can cause sensitivity in some people. Patch test on the inner arm or behind the ear for a few days before first use. If irritation occurs, stop using it.

Skip BASTINA™ on active nights when you use LISSE™ or RÉAU™.
