At its heart is donkey milk, drawn from one of history’s most enduring beauty rituals. According to legend, Cleopatra bathed in donkey milk as part of her beauty routine. She couldn’t have known its chemistry, but those baths exposed her skin to a naturally complex mix of lipids, proteins, amino acids, lactose, minerals, oligosaccharides and bioactive components such as lysozyme and lactoferrin. Naturally soured milk also contains lactic acid, so the ritual anticipated today’s interest in fermented skincare.
Modern research offers a new lens on this ancient ritual. These milk components are studied for their roles in hydration and skin conditioning, and compounds such as lysozyme, lactoferrin and milk oligosaccharides are of particular interest for how they interact with the skin’s microbiome.
PASTÈSE™ brings the ritual into modern cleansing science, pairing donkey milk with soap-free surfactants, papaya and pineapple enzymes, and nutrient-rich lipids. Papain and bromelain are proteolytic enzymes, meaning they act on proteins. On the skin’s surface, they help loosen the bonds between dead surface cells and encourage their gentle release.

Massage onto dry skin with slow, circular movements until the pâte melts into a silky oil. Add lukewarm water to turn it into a cleansing milk, then rinse thoroughly or remove with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid the eye area.
First time? Patch test on the inner arm or behind the ear for a few days before using it on your face.
