WHAT IT HELPS IMPROVE

European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) Grade Lanolin, purified to one of the pharmaceutical industry’s highest quality standards with strict limits on impurities, pesticide residues, and contaminants for exceptional skin compatibility.

With a Touch of Cardamom, long considered an aphrodisiac. Known as the “Queen of Spices,” during the Middle Ages, herbalists referred to cardamom as the “Fire of Venus,”  its warm, spicy, slightly sweet aroma has long been linked with romance, attraction, intimacy, and desire. In Ayurvedic philosophy, cardamom is believed to help open the heart and throat, encouraging honest communication, compassion, and emotional balance.

BALMEA™ is designed for lips that are dry, cracked, chapped, tight, or frequently dehydrated. It helps replenish protective lipids, seal in moisture, soften rough texture, and restore lasting comfort throughout the day and overnight.

Ideal for dry climates, cold weather, frequent lip licking, travel, retinoid users, and hormonally changing skin.

Barrier Breakdown
European Pharmacopoeia grade lanolin, botanical waxes, and structural lipids help reinforce the lips’ protective barrier while reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Dehydration
A concentrated blend of emollients, cocoa butter, castor oil, and moisture-sealing lipids helps preserve hydration while leaving lips softer, smoother, and more comfortable.

Unlike the rest of the skin, the lips produce very little natural oil and have one of the body’s most fragile barriers. As a result, they lose moisture rapidly and are constantly exposed to wind, cold weather, sun, dry air, and everyday movement.

BALMEA™ was formulated to restore what the lips naturally lack.

At the heart of the formula is highly purified European Pharmacopoeia grade lanolin, paired with nourishing botanical lipids and protective waxes that create a breathable moisture seal. Rather than simply coating the lips, BALMEA™ helps replenish barrier lipids while preserving hydration for long-lasting comfort.

Every ingredient in BALMEA™ was selected because it contributes to a specific biological purpose and is supported by published scientific literature.

At the heart of the formula is European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) Grade Lanolin, purified to one of the pharmaceutical industry’s highest quality standards with strict limits on impurities, pesticide residues, and contaminants for exceptional skin compatibility.

Lanolin closely resembles many of the lipids naturally found within human skin, making it exceptionally effective at reducing moisture loss while softening dry, compromised tissue.

After sheep are shorn, the wool is carefully washed and the natural wool wax is purified without harming the animal.

A Barrier Lipid Network featuring castor oil, cocoa butter, sunflower lecithin, radish seed oil, beeswax, candelilla wax, and microcrystalline wax helps replenish moisture while creating a breathable protective seal that remains comfortable for hours.

Vitamin E provides antioxidant support to help protect the formula and complement the skin-conditioning lipid system.

BALMEA™ takes its name from Balmea stormiae, a rare flowering tree native to the cloud forests of Mexico and Central America whose remaining wild populations are considered at risk. Its name reflects our belief that preservation extends beyond the skin to the natural world that inspires every Steinder Weisen™ formulation.

The formula itself draws inspiration from one of medicine’s oldest barrier ingredients.

For centuries, shepherds noticed that despite constant exposure to cold, wind, rain, and manual labor, their hands often remained remarkably soft after tending their sheep. The secret was the natural protective wax coating each wool fiber.

Nearly two thousand years ago, the Greek physician Pedanius Dioscorides described purified wool grease, known as oesypus, in De Materia Medica, recommending it for cracked skin, wounds, and inflammatory conditions. About a century later, Galen incorporated wool-derived lipids into medicinal ointments for compromised skin.

By the late nineteenth century, purified lanolin had become a cornerstone of European pharmacopeias and was widely prescribed by physicians for dry skin, cracked hands, chapped lips, and nipple care for nursing mothers.

BALMEA™ continues this remarkable tradition by pairing one of history’s most respected barrier ingredients with modern purification standards and contemporary formulation science.

Most lip balms temporarily coat the lips.

BALMEA™ helps replenish the barrier lipids that keep lips naturally comfortable.
